What This Report Does

The Multiple Period Report - Gross to Net (Detailed) is your go-to tool for spotting trends and patterns in your payroll data over time. With pay headings as columns and periods as rows, it's specifically designed to help you identify changes, track performance, and predict future patterns through both data analysis and visual chart creation.

How to Access the Report

Getting to this report is simple:

  1. Click on the 'Live Reports' tab in Cintra Cloud (How do I Access Live Reports?)
  2. Find the 'Multiple Period Report - Gross to Net (Detailed)' in the report list
  3. Click 'View' to open the report

Understanding the Trend-Focused Layout

This report's unique structure makes trend identification and visualisation effortless:

  • Columns = Pay headings (salary, overtime, taxes, benefits, etc.)
  • Rows = Time periods (use the column sort to change chronological order)

This layout lets you scan down each column to see how individual pay components evolve over time, making patterns jump out instantly. More importantly, this format is perfect for creating visual trend charts that make patterns even clearer.

How Do I Create a Trend Chart?

When the report is first opened it will display all Additions, Deductions, Employer Overheads and Net pay headings.

Creating a trend chart from your payroll data is straightforward. Follow these simple steps:

Step 1: Filter Your Data

When you first open the report, it shows all pay headings (Additions, Deductions, Employer Overheads, and Net Pay). To create a focused trend chart, you'll need to filter this data.

Using the 'Multiple Period Report - Gross to Net (Detailed)'  report.

To filter by pay heading:

  1. Click 'Filters' in the report configuration panel on the right
  2. Expand 'Pay Heading Name'
  3. Untick 'Select All'
  4. Search for your desired heading (e.g., 'Salary')
  5. Select the heading you want to chart

Step 2: Set Your Time Period

Choose the date range for your trend analysis:

  1. Set your From Date (e.g., 6th April 2024)
  2. Set your To Date (e.g., 5th April 2025)
  3. The grid will automatically refresh with your filtered data

Step 3: Create Your Chart

Now you can generate your trend chart:

  1. Select all the data columns in the refreshed grid
  2. Right-click on your selected data
  3. From the popup menu, select 'Chart Range'
  4. Choose 'Line' for a trend chart

Step 4: View and Adjust Your Chart

Your trend chart will appear, showing your chosen pay heading over your selected time period.

To change the period order:

  • Click on the 'Group' column heading
  • Click the sort option
  • Your chart will update automatically

Step 5: Export Your Chart

Want to include your chart in a presentation or report? It's easy to export:

  1. Click the three dots on your chart
  2. Click 'Download'
  3. A PNG version of your chart will be downloaded to your device
  4. You can now insert this image into presentations, reports, or documents

Example: Creating a Salary Trend Chart

Let's say you want to track salary payments for the last tax year:

  1. Filter: Select 'Salary' from Pay Heading Name
  2. Date Range: Set 6th April 2024 to 5th April 2025
  3. Chart: Select all data, right-click, choose Chart Range > Line
  4. Result: A line chart showing salary trends across the tax year

Your trend chart will clearly show patterns, increases, or seasonal variations in your selected pay heading over time.
